Texas Association Joins PMAA

API elects chairman; PEI adds 6 members

HOUSTON -- The Board of Directors of the Texas Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association (TPCA) approved a measure this week for the association to join the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) beginning Jan. 1, 2009.

“Texas marketers bring a lot to the table, and we are delighted to have their support,” said PMAA chairman Steve Turner. “The Texas congressional delegation is very influential in Congress, and having TPCA 's active support will benefit everyone in the industry.”

TPCA's Board of Directors was briefed by a delegation from [image-nocss] PMAA at its winter board meeting in February 2008. Following this meeting, a committee comprised of TPCA members considered the question of whether TPCA should join PMAA. The committee considered several issues regarding PMAA membership and ultimately recommended to TPCA's Board of Directors that the association join PMAA.

"We look forward to being a member of PMAA and working with our fellow marketers from around the country on the issues currently confronting our industry," said Andy Olmstead, chairman of TPCA's Board of Directors, which approved the measure on Tuesday during a meeting in Houston.

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of the American Petroleum Institute (API) on Monday elected J. Larry Nichols, chairman and CEO of Devon Energy Corp., as chairman of API 's board, effective Jan. 1, 2009. The board also approved Jack N. Gerard as the new president and CEO of API, effective Nov. 1.

Clarence P. Cazalot Jr., president and CEO of Marathon Oil Corp., was elected API 's treasurer, effective Jan. 1.

The announcements were made at API 's annual meeting.

As chairman of API 's Board of Directors, Nichols also will chair the trade association 's 25-member Policy Committee and 10-member Executive Committee.

Nichols is the first CEO of an independent oil and natural gas company to become chairman of API. He is a co-founder of Devon and a director since 1971. He was named chairman of the Board of Directors in 2000.

Prior to joining API, Gerard was president of the American Chemistry Council. Earlier, he had headed the National Mining Association and was co-founder, chairman and CEO of McClure, Gerard and Neuenschwander Inc., a government relations consulting firm. Gerard also spent close to a decade working in the U.S. Senate and House.

Cazalot joined Marathon in March 2000. Earlier, he had served as vice president of Texaco Inc. and president of Texaco 's worldwide production operations.

API, the Washington-based national trade association representing all aspects of America 's oil and natural gas industry, has nearly 400 corporate members.

Finally, the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) announced that six companies have been admitted to the international trade association as members.

The companies:

· William Robbins Associates Inc. of Lafayette, Calif.

· Total Environmental Concepts Inc. of Gaithersburg, Md.

· Tech Petroleum of Hammond, Ind.

· Roper Pump Co. of Commerce, Georgia.

· Bar W. Petroleum and Electric of Red Deer, Canada.

· AIC Ltda. Of Bogata, Columbia.

The businesses join a trade association comprised of more than 1,500 companies engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of equipment used in petroleum marketing and related operations. PEI claims members located in all 50 United States and 81 countries.

PEI is the international trade association for distributors, manufacturers and installers of equipment used in petroleum-marketing and liquid-handling operations. Users of the equipment include service station and convenience-store owners, terminals, bulk plants and airport refueling operations. The Institute's headquarters are located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
