Valero Announces 2015 Branded Programs

Rolls out credit-card fuel rebate, Top Tier gasoline certification

SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Marketing & Supply Co., a subsidiary of Valero Energy Corp., has announced two major branded marketing initiatives targeted for rollout in January 2015--the Money-in-the-Tank proprietary credit-card rebate program and its Top Tier Detergent licensed gasoline.

Starting January 1, Valero consumer credit-card holders will be automatically enrolled in Valero's new Money-in-the-Tank rebate program offering monthly savings of up to 8 cents per gallon for gasoline and diesel fuel purchased with the Valero credit card at Valero-branded sites. To qualify, Valero card accounts must be open and in good standing. Purchases between 50 and 74.9 gallons per month will earn a rebate of 4 cents per gallon, while purchases above 75 gallons per month will earn a rebate of 8 cents per gallon.

The rebates are applied to all gallons purchased during the statement period, once the rebate threshold is reached and up to the monthly limit of 110 gallons.

"We designed this compelling offer to be as seamless and convenient as possible to implement and manage for our Valero credit-card stakeholders--both consumers and branded marketers," said Gary Arthur, Valero's senior vice president of wholesale marketing. "It enables us to thank our existing Valero credit card customers for their continued loyalty through significant savings at the pump, while offering other motorists the same opportunity just by opening a new Valero credit-card account."

Other advantages of the Money-in-the-Tank program include:

  • Valero's marketers pay no transaction fees for purchases made with the Valero credit card.
  • Households with more than one vehicle can use the same Valero credit account to maximize their monthly fuel purchases for a higher return on rebates.
  • Participation at more than 5,600 Valero, Shamrock, Beacon and Diamond Shamrock branded stores coast to coast.

Valero will also introduce its Top Tier Detergent licensed gasoline in January, representing its position as a quality fuel provider to consumers across America. Top Tier is the premier quality standard for gasoline.

"By achieving Top Tier status, we're sending a clear message to the motoring public and our wholesale marketers that Valero's quality gasoline provides enhanced engine protection and meets the performance standards set by most of the world's largest automakers," Arthur said.

Top Tier gasoline is endorsed by seven of the world's top automakers: BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Audi and Mercedes Benz. These manufacturers developed Top Tier because they believe that the current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) additive requirements fall short of ensuring optimal engine performance.

By contrast, Top Tier Gasoline contains significantly higher levels of detergent to help keep a vehicle's intake system clean, improve mileage, reduce emissions, provide unsurpassed anticorrosion protection and maintains a vehicle's engine for peak performance.

The Money-in-the-Tank and Top Tier gasoline programs will be widely advertised in the first and second quarters with nationally broadcast TV commercials and a full complement of store-level signage, provided at no cost to Valero's wholesale branded marketers and dealers.

San Antonio-based Valero is an international manufacturer and marketer of transportation fuels, petrochemicals and power.
