WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. -- Within the past four months, Gulf Oil has announced several branding supply agreements in markets ranging from New England down to Texas. Much of the expansion is occurring around the Wellesley Hills, Mass.-based company’s midstream operations, which includes 17 terminals with more than 14 million barrels of storage, as well as a logistics business.

This January, Falcon Oil, a gasoline and oil distributor based in Blakely, Pa., signed an agreement expanding its 20-year partnership with Gulf to get branded wet barrel supply for several of its sites. The operator recently rebranded three locations to Gulf from another major-oil brand, and has plans to rebrand two more in the Scranton, Pa., area to Gulf in early 2017.
Meredith L. Sadlowski, senior vice president of branded sales and marketing for Gulf Oil, said the supplier is looking to grow in areas surrounding its terminal network, especially with the recent integration of Pyramid Products Terminals (PPT) into Gulf’s operations. Gulf’s parent company, ArcLight Capital Partners, acquired PPT in 2015, along with its nearly 10 million barrels of storage through 11 terminals in Pennsylvania.
“We feel strongly that partnering with Gulf will not only help us expand but will also strengthen our long-standing commitment to our community,” said Rodney Passeri, president and owner of family-owned Falcon Oil, which has been in business for 35 years.
Coffman Oil Co. Inc., Morristown, Tenn., signed on with Gulf in December 2016. The family-owned company, which has distributed fuel and lubricants in Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky for more than 50 years, plans to expand to nearby markets with the branding agreement.
“We’re a company that believes top-notch products and superior service speak for themselves,” said Bob Cloud, wholesale fuels manager for Coffman Oil. “By partnering with Gulf, we are ensuring that we continue to deliver our valued customers the highest quality fuels available on the market.”
Gulf expanded its supply agreement in October 2016 with Fabian Oil Inc., a family-owned fuel distributor based in Oakland, Maine, to provide branded wet barrel supply to its retail sites in central Maine.
“Fabian has been a one-stop shop for all of central Maine’s fuel needs for more than 25 years and we are confident that the iconic Gulf brand will aid us in further expansion into the retail fuel arena,” said Ted Fabian, vice president of Fabian Oil, which distributes fuel throughout New England.
In October 2016, Gulf introduced branded wet barrel supply to the Tampa, Fla., market as part of its expansion in the state. The company expected the brand to resonate with tourists in the region who were already familiar with Gulf from its original Northeast markets.
Just as Gulf was expanding in Florida, the brand announced in October 2016 that it was entering several major markets in Texas, including Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Waco. This brought Gulf back to its roots, having been originally founded more than 110 years ago in Beaumont, Texas.
