Free Fill-Ups for Phillips

GasBuddy promotion offers free fuel to customers with Phil-based names

BOSTON -- Know a Phil, Felipe or Phyllis? In a unique promotion, fuel-price app provider GasBuddy is offering free fill-ups to anyone with a Phil-based first or last name. The idea is to “honor those who live, breathe and embody the fill-up in the most literal way,” said GasBuddy.

The “Perfect Phillip” promotion kicked off Sept. 20 with a fuel giveaway at a Chevron-branded gas station in Los Angeles. Customers who were 18 years or older and had a first or last name of Phillip (or a version of it) received up to $25 of free fuel—with proof of identity. GasBuddy also handed out “The Perfect Phillip” T-shirts during the promotion.

Dozens of variations of Phil qualify for the promotion, including Philip, Phyllis, Philomena, Felipe, Filippo, Phileas and Philibert.

Consumers not named Phillip, or a variation thereof, can also enter to win free fuel at the GasBuddy website. Boston-based GasBuddy is giving away a free fill-up for this portion of the promotion in October, November and December.

Finally, customers who post a photo of their favorite Phillip with the hashtag #PerfectPhillip on Instagram between Sept. 18 and Sept. 25 can also win a free fill-up in the form of two $50 gas cards for themselves and their preferred Phillip.

The Perfect Phillip promotion is a twist on GasBuddy's free fuel promotions, which it has conducted with chains such as Kwik Trip and G&M Oil
