Station Owner Shuts Off Pumps

Protesting high gas prices on day of boycott

RAMSEY, Minn. -- Frank Yamoutpour, a Ramsey, Minn., Shell gas station owner said he would shut off his pumps from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to protest high gasoline prices. The protest coincides with a national gasoline boycott that has been hyped via email and the Internet.

I thought it's a good way to protest, not selling gas for 12 hours and to tell the people we are supporting them, Sunfish Express Service Station owner Yamoutpour told WCCO-TV.

I thought it was my duty as a citizen to do my part, he added.

Ben Harris and his graphic arts company next door volunteered to make the big sign that told people about the protest. Harris thinks Yamoutpur is making a pretty bold statement. I think that it's something that affects everyone and if we all do something to help it might make a difference, he told the news outlet.

Yamoutpour said he hopes other stations will join the protest, too.
