VE85 for 85

Sheetz running 5-hour E85 promo

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. will offer VE85 fuel for 85 cents per gallon as part of a special five-hour promotion at three Pittsburgh locations. On Saturday, December 16, customers can fill up their flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) with VE85 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

VE85 is VeraSun Energy Corp.'s brand of E85, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.

There are approximately six million FFVs on the road that can operate on any combination of E85 and unleaded gasoline, Sheetz and VeraSun said.

"Sheetz Inc. [image-nocss] is thrilled to have the opportunity to make this biofuel, VE85, available to our customers at an even greater low price," said Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing for the Altoona, Pa.-based retailer. "VE85TM is new to a lot of consumers, and we hope that 85 cents per gallon will encourage [FFV] owners to try a tank of this renewable fuel option."

In July, Sheetz joined VeraSun, General Motors Corp. (GM) and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to bring VeraSun E85 to Pittsburgh. Sheetz was the first chain retailer in Pennsylvania to begin selling E85.

Governor Edward G. Rendell selected Sheetz in October 2006 to receive the Renewable Agricultural Energy Council Leadership Award based the company's efforts at renewable energy and biofuel development and deployment in Pennsylvania.

Sheetz operates 329 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.

VeraSun is a major U.S. ethanol producer with two operating production facilities located in Aurora, S.D., and Fort Dodge, Iowa, and it is constructing facilities in Charles City and Hartley, Iowa, and Welcome, Minn. Upon completion of the new facilities, VeraSun will have production capacity of approximately 560 million gallons of ethanol per year. VE85 is now available at more than 80 retail locations, the Brookings, S.D., company said.
