Caribou Coffee is looking to provide a balance between speedy throughput and experiential dining. The Minneapolis-based coffee chain opened a new prototype in April. The Edina, Minn., store features a two-window drive-thru and a comfortable space that invites guests to stay awhile. The location is also testing nitro cold brew on tap.

Caribou is also experimenting with new flavors and offerings outside of its prototype. In March, the retailer rolled out limited-time nostalgic treats. New malted beverages are available hot, iced or frozen. For instance, the malted mocha is an espresso drink with malted milk powder, chocolate chips and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream and chocolate chips.
