WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- Convenience store chain QuickChek Corp. has been named one of the Best Places to Work in New York State for the third consecutive year.

The Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based company, which has 12 locations in New York's Hudson Valley and opened its first of several planned stores on Long Island in October 2014, was recognized by The New York State Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and Best Companies Group, an independent company managing Best Places to Work programs around the country.

The privately-held, family-owned-and-operated company operates 140 convenience stores throughout New Jersey and New York. It has been honored in both states, having been named one of the Best Places to Work in New Jersey for five consecutive years by NJBIZ magazine.

"We firmly believe in being a great place to work, a great place to shop and a great place to invest," said QuickChek CEO Dean Durling. "With over 3,500 team members in 140 stores, we look to create a positive experience and fun environment where core values are nurtured, hard work is rewarded and leadership is cultivated."

Most of the company's vice presidents and all of its district leaders started out working in a company store. The company offers full-time employees a wide variety of affordable health and welfare benefits, ranging from medical, dental and vision to life insurance, a 401(k) savings plan, fitness center reimbursement and even pet insurance.

A typical QuickChek c-store creates 35 to 50 new local jobs and generates approximately $1 million in tax revenue.

The company continues to grow, opening new stores each year. It has never laid off an employee due to economic reasons during its 47-year history, it said.

QuickChek is active in its communities, having raised millions of dollars to support a variety of causes benefiting children, veterans and families alike. Current initiatives include Hope for the Warriors, which enhances the lives of post-9/11 service members and their families, and aiding thousands of area individuals and families through the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the Hudson Valley Food Bank and Long Island Cares.

The statewide Best Places to Work survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in New York, whose practices benefit the state's businesses, economy and workforce. What makes this program unique is how the rankings are derived; each company is not judged by an outsider, but by their own employee base.

QuickChek will be formally recognized at an awards dinner recognizing the 2015 Best Companies to Work for in New York State on April 21.
