Sheetz: Best in Pa. & Va.

Receives Keystone State honor for ninth year in a row
ALTOONA, Pa. -- For the ninth consecutive year, Sheetz Inc. has been listed as one of the best places to work in Pennsylvania. Sheetz employs more than 10,000 people in Pennsylvania at 208 locations. The retailer also has been named to be one of Virginia's best places to work. It employs more than 2,300 people in Virginia at its 58 locations.

"To win this award just once is special," said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz Inc. "To receive it nine years in a row is spectacular. We have the best employees in Pennsylvania. Our people are the finest anywhere and I appreciate [image-nocss] the efforts of each and every one of them."

"It's an honor to serve our customers, and our employees take that responsibility seriously," added Sheetz. "We are constantly looking for ways to improve our customer service, and our employees are an active part of that process. We want every customer to have an excellent experience, regardless of which Sheetz location they visit."

"This is an extremely meaningful award for us because our employees voted for Sheetz," said Sheetz. "I am extremely proud of them."

The annual competition is judged by a public/private partnership that includes Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development and The Central Penn Business Journal.

This survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places to be employed in Pennsylvania or Virginia, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses.

To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements: Have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania or Virginia; be a for-profit or not-for-profit business; be a publicly or privately held business; have a facility in Pennsylvania or Virginia; and be in good standing with commonwealth/state agencies under the governor's jurisdiction.

Best Companies Group, which managed the overall registration and survey process in Pennsylvania and Virginia, surveyed Sheetz employees on their experiences, and their responses were responsible for 75% of the total company score. In addition, an evaluation of Sheetz' workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics accounted for the remaining 25%.

Sheetz currently also ranks on the Best Places to Work list in Ohio and North Carolina.

Sheetz, with more than $4.5 billion in revenue for 2010 and more than 13,500 employees, operates more than 380 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. Sheetz provides a menu of Made-To-Order (MTO) subs, sandwiches and salads, which are ordered through touchscreen order point terminals. All Sheetz convenience stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
