Sheetz Cuts Ribbons on Three New Convenience Restaurants

Adds stores in Mt. Airy, N.C., Zions Crossroads, Va., Uniontown, Pa.

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. opened its 43rd North Carolina location June 14 in Mt. Airy, N.C. Charlie Sheetz from the corporate headquarters in Altoona, Pa., joined Mayor Deborah Cochran and city and county officials at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new 6,500-square-foot store is the company's 422nd store, and features a drive-through and carwash.

"North Carolina continues to be a viable market for Sheetz expansion," said Stan Sheetz, company president and CEO. "We can't wait to serve our new friends in the Mt. Airy area as they become part of the Sheetz experience."

The Mt. Airy Sheetz will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and offer fresh food items such as Sheetz signature Made To Order (MTO) items that include Angus beef burgers, premium grilled chicken sandwiches, freshly-made salads, French fries, onion rings and more. The new store will also feature MTGo! and Shweetz Bakery lines of sandwiches, wraps, donuts and muffins, along with Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, a full-service espresso and smoothie bar staffed by a trained barista where customers can order handmade specialty coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and mochas--hot, frozen or iced.

Sheetz has been a supporter of the Special Olympics for more than 20 years and made a donation to the local chapter of Special Olympics North Carolina as part of the opening festivities.

Meanwhile, the chain cut the ribbon on a new location in Zion Crossroads, Va., on May 24. Travis Sheetz, executive vice president of operations, joined local officials at the ribbon-cutting for the 6,400-square-foot store.

"Our new store in Zion Crossroads is one of 32 stores we are opening in 2012, as we develop our convenience restaurant concept," says Travis Sheetz. "This expansion helps us continue to grow and introduce new people to a unique experience in our stores."

The company made a $2,500 donation to the Special Olympics as part of the opening festivities.

And the company also opened a new store in Uniontown, Pa., on May 24. Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing, joined local officials at the ribbon-cutting for the 5,900-square-foot store.

"Our home base in Pennsylvania continues to be the foundation of our 32 new stores opening this year, as we develop our convenience restaurant concept," said Louie Sheetz. "This expansion helps us continue to grow and introduce new people to a unique experience in our stores."

As part of the opening festivities, the company also made a $2,500 donation to the Special Olympics.

The new stores will provide an economic boost to their respective areas, each creating 40 to 45 new full and part-time jobs and adding approximately $3.5 million taxable property value to the city and county tax bases.

At all three new locations, area residents waiting in line before daybreak to be among the first 50 in line received $100 Sheetz gift cards. During the opening, customers played games to win prizes and enjoyed samples of Sheetz food and beverages.

Established in 1952, Sheetz is one of America's fastest growing family-owned and operated convenience store restaurant (or "convenience restaurant") chains, with more than $5 billion in annual revenue and more than 15,000 employees. The company operates 423 locations throughout Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia. Sheetz provides a menu of subs, sandwiches and salads, which are ordered through touch-screen order point terminals.
