Sheetz Rises on Best Places to Work in PA List

High marks from employees put retailer in top 10 companies in Keystone State

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. said that it has significantly improved its standing as a top employer in Pennsylvania with a move to No. 8 on the Best Places to Work in PA list of large companies, from No. 16. This is the 12th consecutive year Sheetz has been recognized with a place on the list in the Keystone State--something only one other large company has done.

Sheetz

As the only retailer, restaurant, grocery or c-store included, Sheetz stands out among industrial, financial, health service corporations and other businesses. It's an accomplishment Sheetz has achieved in three other states where it operates, currently holding spots in similar competitions in North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio.

"This kind of recognition is priceless to us because our associates volunteer to provide their opinions of Sheetz," said Joe S. Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz Inc. "The feedback we get through these surveys is valuable because it helps us identify ways we can improve as an employer. Our employees are the most important assets we have and it feels great to know they enjoy coming to work every day."

Best Places to Work in PA gave out the award at a ceremony held in Lancaster, Pa., where it honored a group of the top 100 companies--small/medium-sized (fewer than 250 employees) and large-sized companies (more than 250 employees). Sheetz qualified as a large company with just over 9,000 employees in Pennsylvania. The evaluations are designed to identify and recognize best practices by employers across several categories of workplace policies, systems and employee experiences.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz, with more than $6.6 billion in annual revenue for 2013 and more than 15,500 employees, operates more than 460 locations throughout Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia. All Sheetz convenience restaurants are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
