Spinx Solidifying Greenville Market

Acquires three Pumper's locations in Upstate S.C.

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- As part of an effort to solidify its core-market footprint, The Spinx Co. has acquired three Pumper's convenience retail stores located in the Upstate South Carolina area.

As reported in a Raymond James/CSP Daily News Flash on Monday, Spinx began operating the Mauldin North Main Street location on Jan. 23, the Greenville South Pleasantburg location on March 5 and the Greenville Haywood Road location on March 6.

Pumpers Premium Stores Inc. is based in Easley, S.C., and operates two remaining Pumper's locations, one each in Easley and Liberty, S.C.

"These three stores are great additions to The Spinx Co.'s operations, and we're excited to make them a part of our continued growth. These stores are located in great areas and allow us to fill in our core market footprint," said Steve Spinks, president and CEO of The Spinx Co.

He assumed the role of CEO in May 2012 from Stewart Spinx, chairman.

While the three stores will remain under the Pumper's brand for the next two to three months, each store is issuing and redeeming Spinx Xtras loyalty rewards.

With this acquisition, Greenville, S.C.-based The Spinx Co. now owns and operates 69 convenience retail stores in North and South Carolina.

Founded in 1972 by Stewart Spinks, the company is the largest privately held gasoline-convenience retailer in South Carolina. In December 2011, Stewart Spinks completed a partial sale of The Spinx Co. to an employee stock ownership program (ESOP).
