Casey's to Roll Out Online Ordering Chainwide

Brief test gives retailer confidence in technology to boost foodservice sales

ANKENY, Iowa -- Following a "relatively short" but successful test, Casey's General Stores will roll out its online-ordering platform to all of its stores later this year, CSP Daily News has learned.

Casey's Convenience Stores online ordering website

Introduced in late 2014 exclusively in and around the Des Moines, Iowa, market, online ordering currently allows consumers to order a pizza for pickup or delivery, where available, from Casey's convenience stores.

"It was a relatively short test, but given the results and the small investment, we expect to roll that out to all stores later this year," senior vice president and CFO Bill Walljasper told CSP Daily News. "We expect to make an official announcement in June."

The retailer put the rollout of its pizza delivery program on hold while testing the online-ordering platform, Walljasper said in March.

"We like what we see" with online ordering, he said during a March earnings conference call with investors. "If we continue to like what we see, we plan on expanding that next fiscal year. So we'd like to get that up and operational before we start rolling out the pizza delivery anymore."

Online ordering is currently available only from a website and only includes pizza and 2-liter sodas. Walljasper said the c-store chain will likely add a mobile app in time for the complete rollout and make sub sandwiches available, as well.

"There are several chains out there, like Jimmy John's and Domino's, that have this service available, so we see this as a viable new option," he said.
