Gilbarco Enhances Passport

Separation of functions facilitates compliance
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root has announced enhancements for its Passport point-of-sale (POS) system that will segregate payment, forecourt control and PIN Pad functions from the POS system's other applications. This separation of functions will facilitate Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) compliance, quicker feature releases and more flexibility to implement future technologies.

The Payment Card Industry (PCI) developed the PA-DSS in 2008 as an extension of the previously-used Payment Applications Best Practices (PABP) designation. The standards [image-nocss] regulate processing, transfer and storage of sensitive cardholder data within a POS system.

"We embrace Passport's approach of segregating PCI PA-DSS compliance from value-added POS functions," said Cheryl Szczesniak, chief information officer for The Spinx Co. Inc., Greenville, S.C. "We believe this approach will allow faster development and release of new features that will help us improve profitability and keep our competitive advantage."

Amy Wilson, POS marketing manager for Gilbarco Veeder-Root, said, "Separating POS software features and technologies that help customers grow their businesses from the payment functions and forecourt control enables us to release beneficial features faster. Because of this innovative approach, these POS features will no longer be subject to PCI certification."

Passport Version 8.02 will bring PA-DSS compliant POS hardware and software applications to major oil company and generic payment networks.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Gasboy are leading suppliers of payment systems, integrated fuel control, site management, and support services for petroleum marketers and commercial fueling enterprises worldwide.
