Gilbarco Veeder-Root Enhances Passport

New version works on multiple networks

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root has released the newest version of its touchscreen point-of-sale (POS) system, Passport Version 5. It marks the first time that Gilbarco has released a major POS software version on multiple credit-card networks simultaneously. The new version has been approved for the payment networks of Shell and ExxonMobil, while ConocoPhillips and Chevron/Texaco network approval is expected in first-quarter 2007.

The new release makes Passport available to a much wider range of retailers, as the system will now control dispensers [image-nocss] made by Dresser Wayne in addition to Gilbarco ones. Retailers with security cameras or cash acceptors on their fueling islands can now interface with those items directly through this new version of Passport. In addition, fleet-fueling cards can be accepted, as Version 5 has a full interface for Mannatec and Commercial Fueling Network payment systems.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root also announced that it is continuing a popular program of incentives for retailers who choose to upgrade from their G-SITE systems. Gilbarco will buy back retailers' old systems under that program.

Passport cuts cashier training time to about 15 minutes in most cases and provides much more robust management controls for the back office, too. With the continuation of the incentive program and these new features, Passport becomes the best choice for convenience store operators who want to manage their fueling systems and their entire business with one powerful but intuitive system, said Kirsten Paust, vice president of global retail systems for Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root, which, along with Gasboy, is a major supplier of integrated fuel control, site management and support services for petroleum marketers and commercial fueling enterprises worldwide.
