Koupon Media Brings Mobile Offers to Skip Checkout

Technology can now apply personalized deals

ADDISON, Texas -- Koupon Media and Skip have partnered to deliver mobile offers to convenience-store shoppers. The partnership allows Koupon Media to send CPG-funded offers to customers as they shop using Skip's technology.

Skip’s technology allows retailers to implement a self-checkout process for any customer with a mobile device. Skip will integrate Koupon’s mobile offer capabilities directly into its app, allowing brands and retailers participating in the Koupon Network or using Koupon’s technology to display offers within the Skip app or Skip-powered shopping devices. The app will reference Koupon’s database of offers to apply or suggest relevant deals for a customer adding items to their basket.

"Skip is changing the game by bringing a next-generation shopping experience to everyone in the convenience-store industry. Its technology enables any retailer to launch checkout anywhere and 'just walk out' experiences in their stores, providing a new opportunity to deliver offers," said Brad VanOtterloo, president of Koupon. "We are excited to partner with such an innovative team. The integration is a no-brainer for both companies."

Skip emerged on the c-store industry scene in August when Anderson, Ind.-based Ricker’s announced it would launch the app’s self-checkout service in all 58 of its stores. (Ricker's is No. 117 in CSP's 2018 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by total number of company-owned retail outlets.) Skip has also partnered with Portland, Maine-based ZipLine to integrate with its private-label debit consumer payment platform and Alpharetta, Ga.-based PDI to work with its back-office enterprise resource planning software.

"By combining the frictionless experience of cashierless checkout from Skip and mobile-offer technology from Koupon Media, Ricker's will be better able to drive impulse purchases," said Quinn Ricker, president and CEO of Ricker's. "The fully integrated experience will allow us to leverage CPG-funded offers through mobile checkout in a seamless way.”

Skip, based in Salt Lake City, is an app developer that facilitates frictionless checkout. Customers shopping with participating retailers can scan items they buy through the app, bypassing the checkout line. Skip displays the price of items purchased as customers shop. It also includes built-in coupons and can point shoppers to the location of an in-store item they are looking for.

With more than 3 billion offers since its founding, Addison, Texas-based Koupon Media powers mobile offers for more than 40,000 retail locations and many CPG brands. In 2017, the Koupon platform reached more than 108 million customers, driving more than 155 million store trips.
