No More Warm-Body Hires

Wooten Oil using PDI solution to hire, retain employees

GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- Wooten Oil Co. has reported a significant return on investment using Professional Datasolutions Inc.'s applicant tracking and pre-employment testing solution, PDI/Applicant, said Temple, Texas-based PDI.

In an effort to reduce turnover, Wooten Oil implemented PDI/Applicant. In the first year, turnover dropped by 43%, saving the company an estimated $8,100 per location, said the tech company.

PDI/Applicant collects applicant information and administers pre-employment tests. The PASS III pre-employment survey [image-nocss] scores applicants in three key areas: alienation, trustworthiness and drug attitudes.

Based on the applicant's PASS III survey answers, PDI/Applicant then generates a report with behavior-based, followup interview questions.

According to Rick Sumner, vice president of operations for Goldsboro, N.C.-based Wooten Oil, "PDI/Applicant gives structure and consistency around the entire interview process. There are no more 'warm-body hires,' as managers are required to ask followup interview questions and record the answers. This enables us to track turnover more consistently and identify trends for future hires."

In addition to the reduced-turnover savings, Sumner said that PDI/Applicant's applicant pooling feature provides better-quality candidates. "Applicants hired based on the PASS III report recommendations stay longer and are more dependable."

Once hired, new employees begin training using PDI's computer-based training (CBT). "The combination of hiring with PDI/Applicant, training with CBT and tracking turnover weekly has proven to be the solution we needed to dramatically reduce our turnover, said Sumner.

Jeri Saulsbury, HR3 Solutions manager, said, "Companies are starting to realize the importance of hiring for values instead of just job duties. PDI/Applicant screens applicants and identifies dependable team players. PDI/Applicant Version 2.0 provides a complete paperless hiring solution."

HR3 Solutions, a division of PDI, provides multi-site employers with products and services that automate key human resource functions. Offering solutions designed to help retailers achieve improved efficiency in human resources, HR3 Solutions delivers proven techniques, software and services.

PDI delivers enterprisewide software and services that meet convenience store and wholesale petroleum marketers' specialized needs.
