Pantry Selects APT's Test & Learn Management System

Retailer signs three-year license on business analytics platform
SANFORD, N.C. -- The Pantry Inc. has signed an agreement to license Applied Predictive Technologies' Test & Learn Management System, Test & Learn for Sites. The Pantry chose APT after a brief pilot in which analyses were conducted across the organization including foodservice installations, human resource management programs and product pricing. The team at APT was able to demonstrate the value of institutionalizing a Test & Learn process across the network, the company said, and plans are in place to continue and expand the breadth of testing.

"Especially in [image-nocss] this economy, gaining insights into costly programs before rollout is an excellent means of maintaining a true competitive advantage," said Frank Paci, chief financial officer of The Pantry. "APT's Test & Learn Suite allows us to quickly and easily investigate the success of programs, tailor them to maximize profits and then roll them out across our stores, generating enormous value."

Anthony Bruce, chief executive officer of APT, said, "The Pantry and its management truly understand the power of the Test & Learn approach to growing profits, and we are looking forward to working with them to help deliver a superior convenience store experience to their customers while improving their bottom line."

Washington, D.C.-based APT is an industry leader in helping large-scale consumer-focused companies institutionalize a world-class Test & Learn capability. Through the combination of APT's proprietary software and capability-building consulting support, APT has helped some of the world's largest and most successful companies achieve significant bottom-line improvement, it said.

Headquartered in Sanford, N.C., The Pantry is a leading independently operated c-store chain in the southeastern United States and one of the largest independently operated c-store chains in the country, with revenues for fiscal 2008 of approximately $9 billion. As of Nov. 20, 2008, the company operated 1,653 stores in 11 states under select banners, including Kangaroo Express, its primary operating banner. The Pantry's stores offer a broad selection of merchandise, as well as gasoline and other ancillary services designed to appeal to the convenience needs of its customers.
