United Supermarkets Selects FuelQuest to Manage Bulk Fuel

Regional grocery chain to enhance fuel inventory control, purchasing best practices

LUBBOCK, Texas -- United Supermarkets has chosen FuelQuest Inc.'s Fuel Management Services to streamline and manage its bulk fuel processes. United Supermarkets is a major regional grocery chain operating 47 stores in 27 cities across north and west Texas.

"Heightened fuel price volatility coupled with the expansion of our retail fuel sites throughout Texas, required us to seek out a strategic fuel sourcing solution to implement best practices across our statewide fuel operations," said Chris Bridgford, fuel director of United Supermarkets. "FuelQuest's Fuel Management Services enables [image-nocss] us to complement our internal talents with FuelQuest 's veteran staff and industry-leading solutions to obtain the optimal supply portfolio at the most competitive prices so we can pass that savings along to our guests."

With FuelQuest in place, United Supermarkets will be able to gain strategic consulting on supply portfolio, contracting and sourcing; reduce financial exposure to volatile markets with reduced freight and fuel costs; increase transparency with fuel purchase, transport and taxes; centralize control and provide real-time visibility into all stores; optimize inventory and dispatch control; and automate invoice reconciliation.

United Supermarkets is a Lubbock, Texas-based, family-owned grocery chain. A self-distributing company, operates under three distinct formats: United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos United. It operates fuel stations at some locations with Conoco-branded fuels.

Houston-based FuelQuest, a software and services company for the downstream energy industry, provides on-demand, web-based supply chain management and tax automation technologies for suppliers, distributors, buyers, and traders of petroleum products and other energy commodities. Its ZyTax solutions process tens of billions of dollars of motor fuels excise taxes per year.
