Meijer is a multibillion-dollar retailer with 200 supercenter stores, of which 176 also include fuel and a convenience store. Another six Meijer gas stations and convenience stores are separate from a supercenter. The company ranked as the 13th largest privately held company in the country and one of the top 75 most reputable companies in the U.S. by Forbes magazine.

Meijer said it plans to invest more than $160 million in new and remodeled stores throughout the Midwest, according to Supermarket News, and will have 205 supercenters by the end of 2013.

Meijer opened its first gas station in 1967 and its first convenience store in 1987. Meijer decided to open c-stores to provide another level of convenience for its customers, according to officials. Meijer-branded items such as soft drinks, milk and snacks are common in the c-stores.
