Where's Maverik's Next Investing Adventure?

Convenience-store chain to pour $50 million into this market

SALT LAKE CITY -- Convenience-store chain Maverik Inc. plans to build four new stores in Boise, Meridian and Nampa, Idaho, while continuing to look for additional places to expand in the Treasure Valley, reported The Idaho Statesman.

Maverik convenience stores

Maverik, which bills itself as "Adventure's First Stop," recently announced that it expects to open 26 new convenience stores around the Intermountain West. The aggressive growth plans include expansion into the Las Vegas, Denver and Spokane, Wash., markets.

The company plans to invest up to $50 million in the Treasure Valley over the next few years, the company told the newspaper.

That includes four new stores—one in Nampa, slated to open in 2016; one in Meridian, scheduled to open in late 2016 or early 2017; and two in Boise, both slated to open in 2017.

Maverik also plans to rebuild two stores in Boise and remodel a third within the next two years, said the report.

“Finally, we are actively looking for additional sites throughout the Treasure Valley on which to locate future Maverik stores,” the company said.

While it is investing in new stores, the company also decided to shut down three Boise stores, the report said. Maverik is offering “employment opportunities within the company” to employees of those stores, it said.

Maverik was founded by Reuel Call in Afton, Wyo., in 1928, and has grown to nearly 280 convenience stores in 10 states to become the largest independent fuel marketer in the Intermountain West. Salt Lake City-based Maverik currently employs 3,700 “adventure guides.”
