General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice Names Kirchner VP, GM

Will oversee bakery channel business

MINNEAPOLIS -- General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice, Minneapolis, has appointed Michael Kirchner to vice president and general manager of bakery channels.

In his new position, Kirchner will oversee all of the bakery channels businesses, which include in-store bakery, bakery ingredients, fresh bread solutions, convenient solutions team and wholesale sweet goods.

Kirchner was most recently director of foodservice sales for SuperValu in the consumer foods sales division, a position he has held since The Pillsbury Co. integrated [image-nocss] with General Mills in 2001. He joined Pillsbury in 1995 as a business development manager of the SuperValu customer team. Until 2001, Kirchner held many key sales positions in the Pillsbury organization, including director of field sales for Albertsons and trade marketing director, retail baked goods and baking products.

Prior to joining Pillsbury, Kirchner held numerous sales leadership positions at the Campbell Soup Co.

General Mills' Bakeries & Foodservice division sells a variety of bakery products, including frozen biscuits, croissants, cookies and other bread and sweet goods. It also markets dry baking mixes and bakery flour in the foodservice, restaurant and in both wholesale and retail bakery channels. The division also sells General Mills branded cereal, yogurt, snacks and more in a variety of foodservice outlets, such as cafeterias, convenience stores and vending machines. The division generates more than $1.7 billion in annual sales.
