SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Harkins Theatres has launched a line of packaged popcorn, making it the first movie theater brand to expand into the retail popcorn category, according to the company.

The popcorn can be found in convenience stores and grocery stores in Arizona, including Circle K, a division of Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc.  The snack is also sold at Fry’s Food Stores and Bashas’ grocery stores, with more to come, according to the company.

Like the company’s original movie theater popcorn, the new packaged popcorn recipes include non-GMO corn and premium ingredients. The snack comes in five flavors: Movie Theatre Butter, Kettle Corn, Creamy Caramel, Cheddar Cheese and White Cheddar.

“We have been in the popcorn business as long as we’ve been in the movie theater business,” said Dan Harkins, owner of Harkins Theatres. “We are incredibly passionate about our popcorn and are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this new product line to grocery and convenience stores.”

The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based business has movie theaters throughout the Western United States.
