KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As part of what it calls "the sweetest comeback in the history of ever," and in time to celebrate the 85th anniversary of Twinkies, Hostess Brands LLC is inviting consumers to submit fun and inventive Twinkies-inspired recipes for a chance to be included in the new edition of The Twinkies Cookbook.
The new edition will celebrate the successful return of one of the country's most iconic snack cake. Since the historic comeback on July 15, 2013, the company has baked and shipped approximately 500 million Twinkies.
"On average, Hostess has produced 500 million Twinkies annually, but since returning to shelves last July, demand has been tremendous, pushing us past that milestone faster than ever," said William Toler, president and CEO at Hostess Brands. "This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate America's renewed love affair with Twinkies by creating a comeback edition of the Twinkie Cookbook and inviting fans to be part of the next chapter of Twinkies history."
To submit recipe ideas, Hostess fans can visit hostesscakes.com. The deadline for submission is July 31, 2014. From the recipes received, a collection will be chosen for inclusion in the comeback edition of The Twinkies Cookbook. The company will notify creators of the recipes selected. All submissions become property of Hostess Brands.
The new edition is set to be published by Ten Speed Press, a division of Random House, in 2015.
Kansas City, Mo.-based Hostess is now owned by Apollo Global Management LLC and C. Dean Metropoulos & Co., whose combined $410 million offer acquired the bankrupt company's snack cake business in March 2013. The products were off of retail shelves for months--sparking a frenzied hunt by consumers for the remaining available product, as well as a push by rivals to fill the snack-cake void with knockoffs--until the new owners restarted production.
