Stewart's Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Takes Top Honors

World Dairy Expo names flavor best in world

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Dairy convenience store chain Stewart's Shops said that its Dark Chocolate ice cream has been named the world's best in advance of the 2012 World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., in October.

This is the second time in three years Stewart's ice cream has been honored, reported The Saratogian. In 2010, Stewart's French Vanilla and Dark Chocolate ice cream were both named the world's best in the same competition.

Each ice cream entry is ranked on flavor, body, texture, melting quality, color and appearance.

Stewart's Half & Half also was honored for the first time this year, winning the third best in the world title.

"We make all of our ice cream and Half & Half with fresh and local milk at our dairy in Greenfield," Stewart's President Gary Dake said. "It is rewarding to have our partner's hard work recognized."

Judging was held on August 7-8 at the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Culinary School and August 9 at UW-Madison's Babcock Hall.

On October 2, the contest's auction will be held at World Dairy Expo in Madison, at which time all category first-place winners will be auctioned off. A portion of the proceeds from the October 2 contest auction will be used to fund the Dr. Robert Bradley Scholarship and Wisconsin Dairy Products Association Scholarship.
