TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Texarkana Country Club will be the site of the upcoming 16th annual Jim Yates Memorial Charity Golf Classic. This tournament is held annually to raise funds for the various charitable causes that E-Z Mart Stores chooses to support throughout the communities in which it operates.
The event will take place on Monday, June 19, with approximately 250 players participating. These players represent 64 four-man teams playing in two flights during the all day event. Team members include individuals from the E-Z Mart management team as [image-nocss] well as different vendor representatives and businesses that work with the company throughout the year.
Prizes are awarded for the first-, second- and third-place finishers, Longest Drive and Closest to the Hole in each of the flights. Volunteers from the organizations receiving charitable funds, as well as E-Z Mart employees, work to see that the tournament runs smoothly.
More than $140,000 will be raised during this event, the company said. Funds are collected through entry fees, sponsorships and prize raffles. This year, three additional prize packages including a 56-in. projection TV, a 42-in. Sony flat screen TV with a Weber Gold Series grill and a stocked Budweiser refrigerator and Dale Earnhardt Jr. autographed racing helmet will be on display and included as part of a separate prize raffle. The drawing for this raffle will take place on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006. The money raised will benefit The American Cancer Society, The Susan G. Komen Foundation and Easter Seals, among others.
Since the inception of the tournament in 1990, more than $1.2 million has been donated to charitable organizations, the Texarkana, Texas-based retailer said.
E-Z Mart began operations in 1970. Today, E-Z Mart has 316 stores in five states.
