TULSA, Okla. -- Flush with optimism, QuikTrip cleans up when it comes to restroom spiffiness.
In the second annual CSP-Service Intelligence mystery shop program, the Tulsa chain easily outscored the 11 other companies in the survey for best restrooms. [For the complete mystery shop results and a feature on QuikTrip, see the August issue of CSP magazine.]
On the question of whether the public restroom was clean and properly stocked with supplies, QuikTrip stores captured a 90% score, more than nine points higher than second-place [image-nocss] finisher Kum & Go. The other top-five finishers were RaceTrac, Chevron and BP. The composite average score of the 12 chains was 75.3%.
Given the scrutiny customers place on restroom cleanliness, this performance highlights a strong competitive advantage QT has over the competitors measured, said Lang McGilp, Suwannee, Ga.-based Service Intelligence's market research manager. QT comes out a clear winner in restroom cleanliness/maintenance.
McGilp points out that in comparison to last year's mystery shop, this year's batch scored 4% to 10% lower on bathroom cleanliness. This suggests, he said, a general need for greater focus on cleanliness of this area.
Told of the rankings, QuikTrip president and CEO Chet Cadieux said he sees clean bathrooms as just part of the equation of delivering a consistent, high-quality offer. We give a lot of weight to bathrooms, he told CSP Daily News. Indeed, when CSP toured QuikTrip locations in the Tulsa area, it found a company fixated on cleanliness, from regularly wiping finger prints off cooler doors to cleaning foodservice equipment to mopping the tile floor in the women's and men's restrooms.Members help make our journalism possible.
