Wawa Rolls Out Gilbarco's Contactless Card Readers

Affects 1,900 fueling positions at 150 stores

GREENSBORO, N.C. Wawa Inc. is adding Gilbarco's contactless card payment option to more than 1,900 fueling positions in the company's Gilbarco-branded dispensers in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.

Because Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco's contactless card payment system is compliant with global standard ISO 14443, and is approved by all three major credit card companies, transactions qualify as a card swipe and therefore get the best transaction rate, the companies said.

Scott Boorse, Wawa fueling equipment manager, [image-nocss] said the benefits of Gilbarco's contactless system provide enhanced consumer experience and security. Gilbarco's contactless payment system at the pump enables Wawa to offer its customers more payment options, faster transaction time, and more security than traditional payment methods. Offering contactless at the pump is consistent with our commitment to providing convenience to our customers.

The program will be completed by early 2006, the companies added.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Gasboy are major suppliers of integrated fuel control, site management and support services for petroleum marketers and commercial fueling enterprises worldwide.
