Kwik Trip's Ice Cream, Gelato, Yogurt Are Winners

World Dairy Expo bestows 5 awards on the Wisconsin retailer

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Five dairy products, including milk, ice cream, gelato and frozen yogurt, produced by Kwik Trip Inc. took honors at the annual World Dairy Expo Dairy Products Championship contest.

The retailer's awards included one for "creative and innovative products."

La Crosse, Wis.-based Kwik Trip, with more than 500 stores throughout Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota, won second-place honors for its 1% low-fat chocolate milk, regular vanilla ice cream and black raspberry frozen yogurt. It was awarded third place for its Cafe Espresso Chip gelato and French vanilla cappuccino.

"It is exciting for the Dairy Team to win an award in that many categories," said Bruce Pronschinske, director of production operations for Kwik Trip.  "It is the most we’ve won in a single competition," he told CSP Daily News

Pronschinske added: "Time, dedication, hard work and the desire put into making high-quality products for our customers is what we do. Winning awards such as these reaffirms our hard work is paying off."

The cappuccino was honored in the category for creative and innovative products. CTL Foods Inc., Colfax, Wis., took first place for its soda fountain malted milk powder, and Organic Valley, LaFarge, Wis., earned second place for its organic chocolate balance milk protein shake. Pronschinske said the cappuccino flavor is not new for Kwik Trip, but the product was reformulated.

The expo took place in late August in Madison, Wis. It is sponsored by the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association and is the only national contest that includes all dairy products.

One other convenience-store retailer and ice-cream maker, Stewart's Shops of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., also won awards for its ice cream, gelato and heavy whipping cream.
