Two convenience-store retailers earned a spot on Fortune's 2023 Best Workplaces in Retail lists. Sheetz was named No. 3 on a list of "large" companies, and the Wills Group, parent company of Dash In c-stores, ranked No. 14 among "small and medium" companies. Fortune's list is created in partnership with the Great Place to Work group based on analysis of survey responses from more than 133,000 employees from Great Place To Work-certified companies in the retail industry.

This is the second year in a row Sheetz has landed at No. 3 on Fortune's list, falling below only Wegman's and Target.

Eighty-seven percent of employees at Sheetz Inc. say the company is a great place to work compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company, according to the report.

  • Sheetz is No. 12 on CSP’s 2023 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by company-owned store count.

This is the first time the Wills Group and Dash In were selected for the best retail workplace category. Eighty-four percent of employees at Wills Group/Dash In say it is a great place to work.

“We are honored to be recognized by Great Place to Work and Fortune on the 2023 Fortune Best Workplaces in Retail List,” said Blackie Wills, president and CEO of the Wills Group. “[This] is a result of the collective commitment across the Wills Group and Dash In to continue to invest in and support the most important asset in any retail organization, our people.”

  • Dash In is No. 130 in CSP’s 2023 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by total number of company-owned retail outlets.

“Companies [on our list] understand that a company’s commitment to supporting team members determines the employee experience,” said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place To Work. “By putting people first, [these retailers] are reaping the rewards: higher levels of performance, innovation, and customer experience.”

Survey responses reflect a comprehensive picture of the workplace experience, Great Place To Work said. Honorees were selected based on their ability to offer positive outcomes for employees regardless of job role, race, gender, sexual orientation, work status or other demographic identifiers.
