Buc-ee's Building Florida’s Biggest Gas Station

Texas convenience retailer expanding to two states in the Southeast

LAKE JACKSON, Texas -- Convenience-store retailer Buc-ee’s Ltd. is expanding beyond the confines of the Lone Star State with three new stores slated to break ground in 2018. The Daytona Beach Travel Center in Florida will be Buc-ee’s first location outside of Texas, followed by new locations in Fort Myers, Fla., and Baldwin County, Ala.

Once open, the 50,000-square-foot Daytona Beach Travel Center will become the largest gas station/convenience store in the state of Florida, according to the Lake Jackson, Texas-based company. It will feature at least 120 fueling positions and offer products tailored to the Florida market.

“We’re taking our love of Buc-ee’s on the road, sharing the best convenience-store experience with America and spreading Buc-ee’s passion for excellence into Florida and Alabama,” said Jeff Nadalo, general counsel for Buc-ee’s. “As we expand, we remain committed to bringing our customers clean restrooms, a wide variety of merchandise and great customer service, as we’ve been doing since 1982.”

The company also operates the largest convenience store in the world, it said, located in New Braunfels, Texas. The New Braunfels Travel Center covers 68,000 square feet and features 120 fueling positions, 83 toilets, 31 cash registers, four Icee machines and 80 fountain dispensers.

The company was set to begin opening locations in Louisiana, it said in late 2016, but backed off of that plan when it could not secure as many locations as it wanted.

Buc-ee’s opened its first c-store in 1982 in Lake Jackson. Now with 32 c-stores and travel centers, the chain is known for its large number of fueling positions; its huge selection of food, snacks, beverages, gifts and merchandise; and its clean restrooms.
