Huck's Co-Founder Dies

Bayley was 86

CARMI, Ill. --Martin & Bayley Inc., Carmi, Ill., which does business as Huck's Convenience Stores, made the following announcement:

"[We are] saddened to report the death of Frank Bayley to you, our Huck's vendors and friends.

"As you know, Frank Bayley and Bob Martin formed the Martin and Bayley partnership over 50 years ago to begin the Big John Super Stores and Huck's Convenience Stores.

"Under their leadership, the Huck's chain has grown to 115 stores and over 1,200 associates located in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee. As chairman emeritus, Frank has been a symbol of strength, humor and continuity to [all of the] employee owners as we have assumed leadership of the company.

"The funeral will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Carmi. Friends may call on Wednesday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Frank's name to Huck's nonprofit organization, Karing for Kids, or a charity of their choice. Karing for Kids donations may be mailed to Martin & Bayley, 1311A West Main Street, Carmi, IL 62821."

Bayley was 86.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Bayley and Martin opened the first Hucks Convenience Store in Grayville, Ill., in 1974, said a report by The Evansville Courier & Press. Bob Martin died in 1998. In addition to the Huck's and Big John Superstores, Bayley was also involved in LB Ford in Carmi and Flora, Ill.
