Former weatherman served as on-camera spokesperson for c-store chain on gas prices, more

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Stewart's Shops Inc. marketing manager and spokesperson Tom Mailey is leaving the Upstate New York convenience retailer to become spokesperson for the state's Department of Corrections & Community Supervision, according to a report by The Daily Gazette.

Mailey made frequent appearances on the chain's YouTube channel to tout its wares and to speak to its customers about gas prices.

The company declined to comment officially on his departure.

In a tweet, Stewart's Shops president Gary Dake said, "Sad news. T Mailey is leaving me to work for the NYS. Please think about who would be a good media relations person for me."

On a lighter note, he also tweeted, "Get yours soon: Nutty Irishman [ice cream] is going fast and will be gone before St. Patrick's Day - and I don't mean Mailey."

Mailey has been marketing manager and associate broker for the Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based chain since 2008.

From 2006 to 2008, he was an associate broker for Larkin Commercial Properties Inc. And from 1988 to 2008, he was the morning meteorologist for WRGB-TV in Albany, N.Y.
