Murphy USA’s board of directors has elected Mindy West to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief operating officer. West has served as the convenience-store chain’s executive vice president and chief financial officer since 2013, and she assumed responsibilities for all fuels activities in 2018.

She now will be responsible for both the Murphy USA and QuickChek brands, including store operations, merchandise, marketing and fuels, starting March 1.

West will drive strategic initiatives for the El Dorado, Arkansas-based convenience-store chain and enhance the performance and profitability of the entire business, including synergistic activities across the brands, Murphy USA said on Wednesday.

  • Murphy USA is No. 4 on CSP’s 2023 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by total number of retail outlets.

“Having joined [Murphy USA’s] parent company in 1996 as the first Murphy USA was being built, it has been an honor to play key roles in [Murphy USA’s] creation at our spin and the subsequent growth of this incredible business,” West said. “I am excited to take on this new role to harness the potential in front of us and position the Murphy USA and QuickChek brands to win in the future and lead an outstanding group of experienced leaders and dedicated team members who are committed to delivering affordability to our customers.”

In 2013, Murphy Oil Corp. spun off Murphy USA into a downstream subsidiary which operates independently of the parent company and is separately traded.

“Since our spinoff, Mindy has made her mark on the company’s outstanding track record of creating shareholder value as CFO and more recently leading our fuels organization to record profits,” said Murphy USA President and CEO Andrew Clyde.  “As we continue our trajectory and commitment to all stakeholders, she is uniquely positioned to lead and drive the next wave of advantaged growth for the business in this new and critical role.”

Murphy USA also hired Dollar Tree executive Galagher Jeff as executive vice president and CFO. Jeff worked in various roles at Dollar Tree, including senior vice president of financial planning and analysis, treasurer and chief transportation officer. Before that, he worked with Advanced Auto Parts and Walmart.

Chris Click, current senior vice president strategy and development at Murphy USA, was promoted to executive vice president strategy, growth and innovation.

“Today’s changes reflect our continued commitment to deliver profitable growth, disciplined capital allocation, and effective leadership development and succession planning,” Clyde said.

Murphy USA completed its acquisition of QuickChek in January 2021. Murphy USA operates one of the nation’s largest convenience-store chains, with more than 1,700 stores under the Murphy Express and QuickChek brands in 27 states, located primarily in the Southwest, Southeast, Midwest and Northeast, the majority of which are next to Walmart Supercenters.
