Nice N Easy Opens Prototype Store

6,700-square-foot site largest in chain, expands several sections

BREWERTON, N.Y. -- Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes opened the doors to its newest and largest store yesterday, ushering in a new phase in the Upstate New York chain’s efforts to serve its local communities.

“We’re rolling the dice that this is something that’s going to work,” president and CEO John MacDougall told CSP Daily News recently.

The site in Brewerton, N.Y., will serve as a prototype for future builds. The 6,700-square-foot store is open 24 hours and offers an expanded line of groceries with a grocery-style conveyor checkout, frozen foods and seafood, as well as a fresh meat selection including beef and pork. The large walk-in beer cave will feature many different varieties including craft beers.

This new state-of-the-art facility will include a full-service Easy Street Eatery with an expanded seating area offering freshly prepared hot and cold food items and a produce department. Take home meals will be offered every day.

“We wouldn’t have gone with it if I didn’t believe in my own heart that it was a good thing,” MacDougall said. “We gotta try it, we gotta test it, because if it works as well as I think it can, then it opens up all kinds of opportunities for us anywhere you want to go.”

The new store will have 10 fueling positions. A diesel facility to service over-the-road trucks will be coming soon and will be located where the previous Brewerton Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppe was located.

“We’re excited about our new store in Brewerton,” MacDougall said. “We rebuilt a beautiful new store next door, and this Shoppe is the largest we have ever built.  We have expanded many sections in this store to serve the community well.”

Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes operates more than 80 stores throughout New York State with executive offices located in Canastota, N.Y.
