In this role, Fitzgerald (pictured) will oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm, working directly with Leo Vercollone and vice president Paul Vercollone and will also oversee the firm's [image-nocss] financial operations.
Fitzgerald first joined VERC Enterprises in 1995 as the firm's director of finance. In 2000, he was promoted to CFO.
In announcing Fitzgerald's promotion, Leo Vercollone said, "Jim has been a major influence in our company's continued growth and development. He has repeatedly shown the ability to direct many facets of our organization and the desire to bring our company to the next level. As we look toward this decade and see it as one of strong expansion for us, we know that we are in good shape with Jim's vision and guidance."
Prior to his affiliation with VERC Enterprises, Fitzgerald spent 12 years as a senior manager at the Rockland, Mass., CPA firm Needel, Welch & Stone, and he was also CPA/manager for the Boston firm Vitale, Caturano & Co.
He also serves on the legislative committee of the New England Convenience Stores Association (NECSA).
VERC Enterprises is a leading regional independent chain of convenience stores/gas stations and car washes with 23 locations throughout eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The company began 30 years ago with a single car wash in Marshfield, Mass., in a business founded by Eugene Vercollone. Today, his sons operate the company. The company has more than 175 employees.
