Stewart's Shops Highlights Health With New Green Salads

Technomic data reveals growth of entree salads at c-stores

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Stewart’s Shops has announced the addition of fresh salads to its Easy Foods meal solutions.

The new packaged salads include a Chef’s Salad, made with chopped ham, chicken, hard-boiled eggs and tomatoes; and a Chicken Caesar Salad, featuring the classic preparation of romaine lettuce, croutons, Parmesan cheese and grilled chicken. Customers are offered traditional creamy Caesar dressing or can select the dressing of their choice.

The green salads range joins Stewart’s Shops’ other prepared-foods assortment, such as its Now & Then heat-and-eat entrees and bowls, soups, chili, pizza, subs and signature breakfast Eggwich.

Stewart's addition of entree-sized salads reflects a larger menu-development trend that's in play within the c-store segment. The most recent year-over-year data from Technomic shows entree salads are up in incidence by 22% on convenience-store menus. Also, chicken salads have increased by 14% in terms of sheer number of items, while Caesar salads are up by 33% year over year.

Based in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Stewart’s Shops operates 335 stores in upstate New York and southern Vermont.
