Alon Brands Retail operates more than 300 convenience stores branded 7-Eleven in central and west Texas and in New Mexico. The largest concentration of company stores is in El Paso and Abilene, with others in Midland, Odessa, Wichita Falls, Big Spring, Lubbock and Albuquerque. Alon Brands Retail is the largest domestic licensee of 7-Eleven in the United States.

The chain is actively looking to expand by acquiring stores. It also has 10 new-store builds planned.

Alon Brands expanded its presence in the Albuquerque market in summer 2015, acquiring and rebranding 14 stores from Robert Oil Co. Alon now has 38 stores in and around Albuquerque, all branded 7-Eleven.

In April 2015, Delek US Holdings acquired about 46% of the shares of Alon stock owned by Alon Israel Oil Co. At Alon’s first-quarter earnings call, CEO Paul Eisman said the deal allows Delek to acquire up to 49.99% of remaining Alon shares. Uzi Yemin, president and CEO of Delek, said in May that Delek is looking closely at acquiring 100% of Alon.

As a 7-Eleven licensee, the Alon stores have exclusive 7-Eleven branding and products. Selling 7-Eleven-branded products is not mandatory but a right under the licensing agreement. The stores sell Big Gulp, Slurpee, Big Brew, Big Bite, taquitos and 7-Eleven banking services, and generally use equipment and supply sources recommended by 7-Eleven.

The original retail chain was called Southwest Convenience Stores (SCS). It was formed in 1993 when Permian Basin Investments acquired 152 stores from Southland Corp. When Alon Israel Oil Co. Ltd. purchased the Big Spring, Texas, refinery assets in August 2000, it acquired a 34.4% interest in SCS and added the brand of Alon USA. Alon USA completed the acquisition of the remaining interest in the convenience stores and changed the name of the retail division to Alon Brands Retail.

Its FINA gasoline brand was retired in spring 2012, and the Alon fuel brand is now sold at all branded locations in eight states, as well as the company-operated 7-Eleven stores. The company moved its headquarters to Dallas in late 2012, but the marketing department retail offices are in Odessa, Texas.
