OMAHA, Neb. — Mike Wilson has joined the executive team of convenience-store retailer Cubby’s Inc., as the new chief operating officer.

Most recently, Wilson was COO at Holmes Oil Co., Chapel Hill, N.C., and it Cruizers chain, from 2018 to January 2021. Before that, he was regional vice president at CEFCO Convenience Stores from 2014-2018. And he was divisional director at The Pantry Inc., Cary, N.C., from 2004 to 2009.

In October 2020, Refuel Operating Co., Mount Pleasant, S.C., acquired Cruizers. That sale opened the door for Cubby’s Inc. to attract Wilson to Nebraska, Cubby’s said.

“Working for Edward Holmes in North Carolina was the best decision I have ever made. He was not only my boss, but a true mentor to me,” said Wilson. “After meeting the president of Cubby’s Inc., De Lone Wilson (no relation); I knew that he was also that same type of leader and this was the place I wanted to be. I believe in employee engagement. building a culture of highly involved and engaged employees is the only way to successfully operate a convenience store chain. Our focus is to become a restaurant that happens to sell fuel, not a convenience store that sells food. Food is our future and we will be great at it.”

*Cubby’s is No. 171 onCSP’s 2020 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by store count.

Based in Omaha, Neb., Cubby’s operated 37 Convenience locations throughout Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.
