BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Watermelon is the newest flavor from Red Diamond Coffee & Tea as it expands its line of Simple Sweet Tea flavors to foodservice operators.

Red Diamond, which unveiled the flavor at the NACS Show late last year, noted how simple it is for operators to brew its iced teas. Watermelon Simple Sweet Tea combines pure cane sugar, Red Diamond tea and a distinct watermelon flavor. Packaged in a filter bag with pre-mixed sugar, Simple Sweet Tea eliminates the need to measure sugar, train waitstaff on sugar-to-tea ratios and stir undissolved sugar in the urn.

“We understand that now more than ever our foodservice and c-store partners are looking for ways to get customers through their doors while also trying to balance concerns with labor and supply challenges,” said Emily Wood Bowron, vice president of strategic marketing at Red Diamond, Birmingham, Ala. “Our Simple Sweet Tea has been highly touted for its quality, convenience and consistency, so an extension of our line was a natural answer to help our customers to navigate these unprecedented challenges.

This new watermelon offering gives its customers a trending tea flavor that will help drive traffic while streamlining labor and training needs, Bowron added. “The punch of flavor is really fresh, unique and memorable,” she said.

With the tea and sugar pre-measured, it takes the guessing game out of brewing the tea, which also is available in original sweet black tea, ensuring a positive customer experience while increasing back-of-house efficiencies, she added.

The new flavor comes in 16-count cartons with 1.5-gallon brewing instructions.

Red Diamond Coffee & Tea, founded in 1906, began as the family company Donovan Provision Co. but quickly converted into a maker and provider of quality coffees and teas, according to the company’s website. To ensure the family’s commitment to excellence and innovation, in 1908 William Donovan renamed the company Red Diamond.

The company last year released a report on shifting consumer preferences and behaviors around coffee.
