Buc-ee’s Poised to Open Its First Travel Center in Colorado

Johnstown location welcoming customers on March 18, but will Hillsboro, Texas, store eclipse it?

Buc-ee’s Ltd. will unveil its newest travel center on Monday, March 18,in Johnstown, Colorado, the first in the Centennial State in a grand-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by state and local officials.

Located at 5201 Nugget Road (off I-25 and County Road 48), Buc-ee’s Johnstown occupies 74,000 square feet and offers 116fueling positions and 12 electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations. The store offers “thousands” of snack, meal and drink options for travelers on the go, the company said. Buc-ee’s favorites, including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries are available as well.

State and local leaders attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony will include Mayor Troy Mellon; Mayor pro-tem Damien Berg; Council members Jesse Molinar, Dianne Morris, Andrew Paranto, and Chad Young; and Town Manager Matt LeCerf.

After the opening of Buc-ee’s Johnstown, Lake Jackson, Texas-based Buc-ee’s will operate 48 stores nationwide, mostly in Texas and throughout the South. Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, Buc-ee’s has opened travel centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Missouri. Buc-ee’s broke ground on the first Virginia location earlier this year.

“We picked a great partner in the community of Johnstown for our first store in Colorado,” said Stan Beard, director of real estate for Buc-ee’s. “At the foothills of the beautiful Northern Front Range, this Buc-ee’s will introduce all sorts of bikers, hikers, skiers and campers to the cleanest restrooms, friendliest staff and freshest food they’ll ever find on a road trip.”

Buc-ee’s Johnstown will bring more than 200 new, permanent, full-time jobs to the area with starting pay beginning well above minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% matching 401k and three weeks of paid vacation, it said.

Will Solar Eclipse Shine for Buc-ee’s?

Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, Buc-ee’s has opened travel centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and Missouri.

A Buc-ee’s in Hillsboro, Texas, that was initially expected to open in January but was delayed by construction issues now will open the second week of April, a Buc-ee’s representative confirmed for MySanAntonio. That opening could coincide with the much-anticipated April 8 solar eclipse, a huge travelers’ draw for the communities in the path of the astronomical event.

Buc-ee’s also broke ground in Amarillo, Texas, in October 2023, reported abc7 Amarillo, with a scheduled opening date of February 2025.

And Buc-ee’s will open its first Arizona store, in Goodyear, according to an updated report by the City of Goodyear. The company has closed on the purchase of the land on the southeast corner of Bullard Avenue and Interstate 10. It has not announced an opening date.
