LAFAYETTE, La. — Convenience-store quick-service restaurant (QSR) brand Krispy Krunchy Chicken has introduced a new sweet butter bun for its flagship fried chicken sandwich at select locations.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken’s fried chicken sandwich features hand-breaded fried chicken, dill pickles and a honey butter spread. Besides the sandwich and an array of fried chicken offerings, the brand’s menu includes fried seafood, honey butter biscuits and various sides, as well as newer items, such as Boneless Wings, Crispitos and State Fair Corn Dogs.

Fried chicken captivated the attention of the internet, the fast-food industry and c-store retailers in 2019. It all began when Popeyes debuted its new chicken sandwich and took to Twitter saying that it was better than the sandwich from rival Chick-fil-A. This sparked a social-media war between the two brands, both of which generated unexpectedly large crowds at their restaurants, with customers curious to find out for themselves which sandwich was superior. This brought fried chicken to the forefront on c-store menus as well. While many chains have offered crispy chicken sandwiches for years, some specialize in the dish and often highlight it as their flagship menu item.

Lafayette, La.-based Krispy Krunchy Chicken has more than 2,500 locations in 46 U.S. states, American Samoa and Mexico. Last year, Krispy Krunchy added 476 branded c-store locations. Most recently, the company opened a new location inside a Go Mart c-store in Merida, Mexico. Krispy Krunchy Chicken was founded in 1989. It revamped its logo, stores and products last year in honor of its 30th anniversary.
