Steal This Idea: Indian Food Gains Steam

More than half of Americans have tried the cuisine and enjoyed it, Technomic reports

The growth in popularity of Indian food is being propelled by consumers hungry for global flavors along with increased exposure to this cuisine at independent eateries—and it’s a trend convenience stores might want to consider.

According to CSP’s sister research firm, Technomic, 52% of American consumers have tried Indian food and enjoyed it. Meanwhile, Datassential, Chicago, reported 49% of U.S. consumers have eaten at a restaurant primarily offering Indian cuisine, reported CSP sister publication Restaurant Business.

“With its wealth of vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, the cuisine also exemplifies a number of rising food trends,” Restaurant Business said. “Aside from the eating angle, health trends like yoga, meditation and ayurvedic medicine—a natural and holistic approach to wellness—all have Indian roots.”
