Casey’s General Stores Inc. and PepsiCo paid tribute April 8 to the nation’s fallen service members and military families during an outdoor event as part of the “Rolling Remembrance” relay, a more than 14,000-mile-long relay of an American flag flown in combat during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2012 to help raise awareness and funds for the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation.

Using normal business routes, PepsiCo’s network of drivers passed off the storied flag at various relay points, including a Casey’s convenience store in Ankeny, Iowa. Through the course of the relay, 55 PepsiCo drivers, who are all also military veterans, transported the American flag across the country, handing it off to one another from Seattle to New York.

Attendees heard from Casey’s President and CEO Darren Rebelez; PepsiCo’s Logistics, Distribution and Transportation Senior Director Matt Laneve; and Children of Fallen Patriots Development Associate Sheridan Skurupey-McDonald, a program beneficiary.

“At Casey’s, our purpose is to make life better for our communities and guests every day, including supporting and honoring our service members and their families for their selfless sacrifices,” said Rebelez, a U.S. Army veteran. “We’re proud to partner with PepsiCo through meaningful opportunities like Rolling Remembrance and Children of Fallen Patriots to provide impactful scholarships to children who’ve lost a parent in the line of duty.”
