Tesoro Corp. is a Fortune 150, publicly traded oil refiner-marketer founded in 1968 whose retail focus started about 15 years ago. Assembled from various purchases, usually tied to refinery acquisitions, Tesoro's retail segment as of Sept. 30, 2014, includes a network of 2,279 branded retail stations under the ARCO, Shell, Exxon, Mobil, USA Gasoline and Tesoro brands.
Tesoro has more than 30 stores in nine Western states under a joint venture with Wal-Mart. Tesoro operates under the Shell brand at certain stations in California through a long-term agreement and owns the exclusive rights to the USA Gasoline brand in California, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Washington.
The company's retail segment sells gasoline, diesel fuel and convenience store items through 586 company-operated retail stations and 1,693 branded jobber/dealers in 16 states.
