Houston-based Landmark Industries owns and operates 212 stores and distributes fuel to an additional 229 or so dealer locations and other sites in and around Houston, San Antonio and Austin. All company-owned locations are called Timewise Food Stores, and the average size is 2,500 to 3,000 square feet. New locations built from the ground up are larger, averaging 5,000 square feet. This allows the chain to add more high-margin items to the stores. The chain’s acquisition of 63 Exxon locations resulted in rebranding inside and out, including resets, new counters, gondolas, etc. The company acquired some large properties with small stores on site. Also with the Exxon acquisition, Landmark is putting diesel in most stores.

Landmark Industries' Timewise's competitive advantage is its positioning as a country store in residential areas; stores are personalized and managers are trained to learn customers' names.
