Li'l Thrift Food Marts Inc., which operates all convenience stores under the name Short Stop Food Marts, is a family-owned chain of 49 convenience stores located throughout southeastern North Carolina. Stores are clean and well-lighted, with friendly employees. The chain aims to offer its customers convenience and variety through its selection of snacks, candies, beverages, premade foods, groceries and dairy products.
Stores also stock health-and-beauty-care items. The company rolled out scanning in all stores in 2009 with Gilbarco's Passport system, including the upgrade of new registers. In 2010, DataMax back office software was installed in all stores. All locations sell fuel except one. Select locations offer a proprietary Short Stop fuel brand at a lower retail price than national brands. Some locations feature BP and Exxon fuels. Pump technology is a combination of Wayne and Gilbarco. Short Stop is known for giving back in the communities it serves.
