Canned wines
One new player that Americans are enjoying in droves this summer is canned wines. Wine in a can has seen explosive sales, according to a new Nielsen report, driving $14.5 million in sales for the 52 weeks ending June 18, 2016, an astonishing 125.2% increase from the prior year.
Alternative packaging isn’t new to the wine category, Nielsen reported. Boxed wine (3-liter and smaller sizes) are growing 16.2%. Sales of wines in smaller cartons (e.g., Tetra Paks) are growing 21.7% in dollar sales in the latest year.
