CHICAGO -- Retailers are taking a bite out of the World Series hype with food deals and promos aimed at Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs fans. With 68 years and 108 years, respectively, since a World Series win for both teams, the stakes are high, and a few chains are looking to make the most of the inevitable nervous snacking ...
Having dubbed Cleveland’s team the Windians, Mentor, Ohio-based Convenient Food Mart displayed its team pride with food specials. The chain rolled out its game-day special of 15 tenders, 15 jo-jos and Reser mac or potato salad for $18.99 for each game in the World Series.
Unlike Convenient Food Mart, this dairy-focused c-store chain based in Ballston Spa, N.Y., did not take sides, and instead sold its Peanut Butter Pandemonium ice cream for $3.19 Friday through Saturday.
Why choose sides if you have enough locations in which to choose both? Chicago-area 7-Eleven stores are selling a Big Bite Hot Dog and a Big Gulp for $1.08 in honor of the 108 years since the Cubs have won a World Series, while Cleveland-area units are selling 68-cent Big Bite Hot Dogs to commemorate the 68 years since Cleveland’s last World Series win.
The taco chain’s annual “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” campaign activated during game one when Indians infielder Francisco Lindor stole a base, setting the stage for free Doritos Locos Tacos at participating locations from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 2.
