Inside Haffner’s New Store Design

Haffner’s, an Energy North convenience-store chain of 72 stores, opened a new flagship store in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The 6,200-square-foot location is a result of the business listening to its community and contributing what it asked for: convenience items, gasoline, a car wash and a unique take on foodservice.

Haffner’s beer cave, wine section and packaged beverage areas are identified by blue, red and yellow tiles, tying the brand’s colors into the design. 

In a homage to the location’s history, the flagship store features photographs of the original Lawrence Haffner’s location in 1925 and murals of the city’s old textile mills.

Sal's Pizza and Crack'd Express, which offers breakfast and coffee, are the two foodservice options at Haffner's. 

“Sal’s and Haffner’s are such iconic brands in the city of Lawrence,” said Jeff Black, CEO of Energy North Inc. “We wanted to put in a flagship store to show that money should be flowing into the city. Not a lot of people invest in Lawrence. We wanted to; it’s done so much for us, done so much for the Lupoli companies.”

Sal’s offers pizza by the slice, as well as calzones, garlic knots and salads.

Crack’d Express is a storefront and drive-thru version of the original Crack’d Kitchen & Coffee concept, which specializes in convenient breakfast and lunch items.
